Burgerville has grown a bit from our beginnings in the 1960s. One thing that has remained constant is our commitment to giving back to the communities that have given us so much. Today’s Burgerville includes 39 restaurants in Washington and Oregon, with more in the planning stages.

Big Town Hero got its start in Corvallis, Oregon, home of Oregon State University in 1983. The original name was Campus Hero, but was later changed when new restaurants were developed in smaller cities without a college campus. Today, Big Town Hero boasts a number of stores throughout Oregon and has developed a reputation for excellence among its extremely loyal customer base. Ken’s Artisan Pizza opened July 5, 2006, following from the success of Monday Night Pizza at Ken’s Artisan Bakery. The restaurant features a Le Panyol wood-fired oven, built by Master Mason Timothy Seaton, and seats 55 plus 10 at the bar. During summer months an additional 16 seats are on the sidewalk. The warm, airy space features gigantic Douglas Fir beams, big sliding glass windows, an open kitchen with the big igloo-shaped oven in the middle of the pizzeria, and tables and bar built from salvaged wood (old-growth Douglas Fir) that was once part of the late Jantzen Beach Big Dipper roller coaster (1923 – 1970). Prints of the vintage wooden coaster decorate one of the walls in the rear of the restaurant. One of Portland’s biggest bike corrals front Ken’s Artisan Pizza and neighboring Bamboo Sushi on SE 28th Ave. On street bicycle parking is available for 24 bikes. The pizza at Ken’s Artisan Pizza is inspired by pizzas Ken and chef Alan Maniscalco each have enjoyed during visits to Italy and elsewhere in Europe. Baked in the intense heat of a wood-fired oven, with a blistered crust, and topped with the best ingredients they can find, pizzas are baked in about 2 minutes time. The Ram is a private, independent, family-owned and operated restaurant business. We were born on February 26, 1971 when our founders took their entrepreneurial spirit and experiences they received making pizza and serving beer at Shakey’s Pizza Parlor to open their own restaurant. That first restaurant was called the Ram Pub, which was a “Deluxe Tavern” that served hot food, including cook-your-own burgers and steaks, along with beer and wine. The “Deluxe Tavern” concept gradually evolved throughout the ‘70s into our casual, full-service, family-oriented restaurants of today. Our brand grew further when we opened our first fine-dining dinner house in 1980. In 1995 we launched the Big Horn Brewing Company. By brewing our own ales and lagers, we are able to offer our guests superior quality, nationally recognized, hand-crafted beers at value prices.

Widmer Brothers Brewing is located in beautiful and brew-friendly Portland, OR. Our publicly-held brewery employs over 150 people who are as passionate about quality craft beer as Kurt & Rob themselves. We opened the brewery in 1984, and built a new 40-barrel brewing system in our current Russell Street location in 1990. We've grown steadily ever since. In 1996, we completed installation of a state-of-the art 250-barrel brewhouse, bringing our capacity to 220,000 barrels per year. In 1996, for the first time in our brewery's history we also installed a bottling line, capable of producing 500 bottles per minute. In 2008 we added six new 1500-barrel fermentation tanks that increased our capacity to 450,000 barrels per year, and added a new keg filling line capable of filling 300 kegs per hour.

The fall of 1978 saw the opening of a small cafe on the Westmoreland end of Milwaukie Avenue that would have a profound impact on the way Portland looked at dining, and in particular, desserts. Papa Haydn was home to Portland's first espresso machine, and the lines of hungry diners were legendary. The limited menu of European-inspired pastries, sandwiches, soups, and salads soon gave way to an expanded space with a full kitchen and a comprehensive lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch menu. A comprehensive remodel was finished in late 2007, with updates including a full bar, expanded kitchen, and a heated patio.

Kenneth "Cat Daddy" Pogson and Tres Shannon have been friends for awhile. They always wanted to start a business together. Something that would fit into an extraordinary Portland business climate. We're Salt & Straw, Portland's farm-to-cone ice cream shop. Our ice cream is handmade in small-batches using only all-natural dairy with the best local, sustainable and organic ingredients Oregon has to offer, as well as imported flavors from small, handpicked farms and producers around the world. We start with local cream from Lochmead Dairy in Eugene, Oregon. All their cows were born right there on their third generation, family farm – so we know it's the highest quality we can get and super fresh. Our ice cream is made with 17% butterfat, very little air in the churn process, and a low sweetness level...so the flavors can really shine through.

Portland is home to more working steam locomotives than any other city in the country, and you'll find them at the volunteer-run Oregon Rail Heritage Center, opened in 2012. Guided interpretation, presentations, exhibits and events tell the story of Pacific Northwest railroads and, during the holiday season, light-adorned "Holiday Express" trains tour passengers along the Willamette River. Located near OMSI and accessible via Portland Streetcar. Open Thursday-Sunday, 1-5 p.m.; admission is by donation.

Experience the adventure of river life when you explore the Oregon Maritime Museum, housed in the historic sternwheeler "Portland" on the Willamette River. One of the oldest children's museums in the country, the Portland Children's Museum is filled interactive exhibits where little ones can build, sculpt, and splash in the name of discovery. Portland's Rose Gardens, located in Portland, OR, are world renown for housing a diverse and expansive collection of rare, unique, beautiful roses.

Proclaimed the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan, the Portland Japanese Garden is a 5.5-acre haven of tranquil beauty nestled in the scenic west hills of Portland, Oregon.

Located atop the hills west of downtown, Washington Park is one of the oldest, best-loved and most well-used parks in Portland. Its grounds include the International Rose Test Garden, the Japanese Garden, Hoyt Arboretum, the Oregon Zoo, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Holocaust Memorial, the World Forestry Center and the Children's Museum. The Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade, a 1.5-mile (2.4-kilometer) pedestrian/bicycling trail that extends along the east bank of downtown Portland's Willamette River between the Steel and Hawthorne bridges, opened in 2001. Highlights include a 1,200-foot (366-meter) floating walkway (the longest in the United States), an adjoining public boat dock, public art and places to stop, relax and enjoy. With access from four bridges, cyclists, joggers and walkers can enjoy a complete three-mile (4.8-kilometer) loop that offers unparalleled views of downtown Portland and the river. The entire route is ADA compliant. Open daily; free.

Seven acres of grounds boast an outstanding collection of rare species and hybrid rhododendrons, azaleas, deciduous and coniferous trees. Formal landscapes and more natural areas along the springs provide plenty of birding, especially during spring and winter months when huge flocks of waterfowl and gulls congregate on the artificial pond. Restrooms and wheelchair-accessible paved trails are available. Open daily; admission charged only from March through Labor Day.

This nine-acre botanical garden boasts more than 2,000 species, hybrids and cultivars, including Northwest native plants, as well as viburnums, camellias and azaleas of the southeastern United States. The garden has an interpretive center, restrooms, trails and wildlife viewing areas. Limited wheelchair accessibility; pets not allowed. Closed Mondays and some holidays; free.

Hands-on, interactive exhibits that are fun for the whole family are waiting to be explored at the Discovery Museum. See the forest from a bird's-eye view or take a wet-free raft ride in Class IV rapids. Climb underneath the forest to see the life below, or try your smoke jumping skills. Round out your adventure with video journeys to Siberia, China, South Africa, and Brazil. Five minutes from downtown Portland via Hwy. 26 or MAX light rail. Naturally, the world's largest independent bookseller, which stocks more than 1.5 million books in nine rooms, spanning three stories and filling an entire city block, includes an amazing children's section. Young readers can pull up a seat and find new favorite authors among from the packed and lovingly curated shelves. Hours: Open 9 a.m.-11 p.m., 365 days a year. Admission: Free

There's no cost for children age 17 or younger to enjoy the Portland Art Museum for free (some major traveling exhibitions may require a small fee). Kids love to soar above the city in the futuristic-looking pods of Portland's tram, taking in the views of Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, the Willamette River and the downtown skyline. The tram runs between the South Waterfront district (a short ride from downtown on the Portland Streetcar) and Oregon Health & Science University. Hours: Monday-Friday, 5:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. From June-September, the tram also operates on Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Admission: Roundtrip fare is $4.00; children 6 and under free.

This award-winning museum and military history resource honors, preserves and showcases Oregon's remarkable military history through outstanding collections and library and is the official repository for Oregon's military history. Displays include tanks, vehicles, uniforms, and firearms from the mid-1800s to present.

On Abernethy Green, this 8.5 acre site served as the main destination area for Oregon emigrants in the 1840s. Recently used for living history interpretations and multimedia dramatizations to vividly depict the pioneers' struggles and success and now home to the Visitor Information Welcome Center. Roloff Farm is the home of the Roloff family, made famous by the television series "Little People, Big World." The farm is only open to the public during pumpkin season.

When the snow starts to fall on Mt. Hood, snow enthusiasts eagerly await news of opening day at Skibowl, America's Largest Night Ski area and the closest ski resort to Portland. Skibowl provides snow riders with 960 skiable acres in the Mt. Hood National Forest, featuring 34 fully lit runs, 65 runs total and a vertical drop of 1,500. The Oregon Convention Center (OCC) is the largest convention center in the Pacific Northwest, making it an ideal venue for events of any size - from conventions and industry tradeshows to meetings, auctions and private receptions. The Portland Expo Center is Oregon's largest multi-purpose facility. The 53 acre campus boasts five spacious exhibit halls totaling over 333,000 square feet and ten varied meeting rooms. Conveniently located off Interstate 5 between downtown Portland and Vancouver, Washington, the Expo Center is also only minutes from Portland's city center as well as the Portland International Airport. With nearly 2000 area hotel rooms, and shopping in close proximity, local and regional guests alike can easily access the Expo Center campus for all types of events.

A beloved local institution, the Portland Trail Blazers were the 1977 NBA champions, and have made the playoffs in 26 of their 39 seasons. And every year Portlanders come out in droves to support their team. In 1995 the Blazers set the record for most consecutive sellout home games at 814 — a mark that still stands today. The Blazers play at the Rose Garden Arena, just across the Willamette River from downtown, accessible via all MAX light rail lines.

Soccer may have only just recently started to heat up in America, but the Portland Timbers have been popular in four incarnations since first forming in the 1970s. With their 2011 ascension into Major League Soccer, the local footballers not only become the city's second major league sports team, but they also get JELD-WEN Field to themselves, creating one of the most intimate and exciting home venues in the league. JELD-WEN Field is just west of downtown, on the MAX Red and Blue lines.

Since 1976, the Western Hockey League's Winter Hawks have debuted future NHL Hall of Famers before avid Portland fans. The Winter Hawks play at the Memorial Coliseum, next door to the Rose Garden arena.

The Rose City Rollers are Portland, Oregon's all-female flat track roller derby league. Our mission is to develop women of attitude, athleticism and passion to play a hard-hitting sport of speed and skill. As pioneers in the rebirth of roller derby, RCR continues to foster its growth. The league's goals are to serve our community by empowering women and girls, providing entertainment for our fans and supporting charitable causes. (We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, formed in 2004, and a founding member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association) . . . and that's just the beginning.

One of the oldest children's museums in the country, this beloved institution is filled with a collection of interactive exhibits where little ones can build, sculpt, and splash in the name of discovery. Popular attractions include the Play It Again Theater, which never goes dark, and the Dig Pit, filled with rubber gravel and located next to the Caterpillar Café. Hours: March 1 - Sept. 6, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. The rest of the year, open Tuesday-Sunday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Open until 8 p.m. the first Friday of every month, year-round. Admission: Youth and adults (ages 1-54) $9, seniors (55+) and military $8, members and children under age 1 free. Free on the first Friday of each month from 4-8 p.m.

Portland is home to more working steam locomotives than any other city in the country, and you'll find them at the volunteer-run Oregon Rail Heritage Center, opened in 2012. Guided interpretation, presentations, exhibits and events tell the story of Pacific Northwest railroads and, during the holiday season, light-adorned "Holiday Express" trains tour passengers along the Willamette River. Located near OMSI and accessible via Portland Streetcar. Open Thursday-Sunday, 1-5 p.m.; admission is by donation.
